FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE. October 24, 2002.
Artists include Carla Olson, who recorded several albums with Clark, Rick Clark (Gene's brother), local favorites Phil Angotti and the Idea, the Me Decade, the Siderunners, Rick Salazar, Todd Leiter-Weintraub and others. Gene Clark first gained fame as a founding member of the 60's folk-rock band the Byrds. His rich baritone and easy-going manner made him the obvious front man for the popular group. However, after writing the majority of the songs on the first two Byrds albums, he left to pursue a solo career. Clark recorded with Carla Olson and Doug Dillard, kindred spirits well suited for his country inspired ballads. Although post-Byrds fame eluded Clark, many in the alt-country movement now claim him as a primary influence. Clark recorded 10 official post-Byrds albums, but despite critical acclaim and induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, he died in relative obscurity in 1991 at age 46. Although we lost Gene far too soon, unreleased tracks are still finding their way to the surface, to the delight of his many fans. With Care from Someone will feature three and four song sets from the individual artists, covering both Gene's solo material as well as songs he wrote for the Byrds. Fans can expect surprises as members of various bands get together to help each other out on such songs as 'Eight Miles High' and 'Feel a Whole Lot Better'. Past Clark tributes in other cities have taken on the feel of down home jam sessions as the line between audience and artist disappears. Ticket sales will benefit the Chicago Coalition for the Homeless. Tickets will be available at the door for $15 and can be purchased in advance off the Nevin's website (www.nevinslive.com) or by mailing check or money order to TimPam Alley, 5741 N. Lansing, Chicago, IL 60646. For more information, please visit the event website at www.genetribute2002.com.
